CLOSING Comments from the Forum-
Thank you Board and Dr. Ramos for hosting this important event. And to Mr. Seybold thank you for your years of service on the Board. Thank you all for coming.
Many of you may not know me. So, let me finish by telling you a little bit about myself.
I am running FOR Castleberry ISD school Board of Education, Place 2.
I went back to school to become an interior decorator when my daughter, Abbie was a freshman in college. I then interned for a year with the first black woman to attend Parsons school of Design in New York! What an amazing woman! What an amazing opportunity! I learned a lot about life from her and I love her dearly. I studied child development and I am currently enrolled in college courses studying American history, the constitution, and the works of CS Lewis.
I am blessed with a gracious and loving husband, Brad. His mom, Carole, taught school at IRMA MARSH for 40 years and was the last teacher to be hired by Ms. Marsh.
I have five children, three are Castleberry graduates. *we are also expecting our first grandchild!
Brantley, who was an English teacher here, is now an assistant principal in the Eagle Mountain Saginaw ISD. He is a graduate of Texas Tech and has his masters in administration.
Chad is an intellectual property attorney in Richardson, he Graduated from TCU and attended Texas A&M law school.
Abbie graduated from Texas A&M and works at the Cooks Child Study Center as a behavioral therapist for children with autism and is planning on getting her masters in this field. She works with families to help them understand their child’s special needs.
My daughter in law Kaitlin is an award winning orchestra teacher in the Richardson ISD and is a concert violinist. Also, an Aggie.
My daughter in law Jessica has her degree in business from North Texas mean green and works with numbers and taxes and a lot of monitor screens!
I wish I could take credit for all of their accomplishments, but they all have worked very hard, believed in God, believed in themselves, to get them where they are.
My husband and I have loved and supported them all along the way of course, but our job was to give them their roots, their job was and is to take flight.
That is what school boards are about. We set a foundation that is strongly rooted in values that will allow all students to have their own wings to fly should they choose to. Castleberry does that. The opportunities abound here, and we can do better.
Whether it is going on to college, going to a trade or vocational school, leaving high school with a skill or trade, or joining the military. it is our job as a board and community to make sure they are equipped with life skills, with educational knowledge, with strong bodies and minds to conquer their worlds. To take flight. We all understand this.
The reality is Students do come and go; absolutely we need to serve every student while they are at Castleberry; Every one of them in the best way we can!
Richard Branson says, “ Clients do not come first. Employees come first. If you take care of your employees, they will take care of your clients.”
There is a lot of truth to that. For the most part, we want our employees to stay. We want our employees to love working here. We want our employees to love their jobs and in so doing, Love our children.
So, School Boards have an important job safeguarding what we put in front of our children; Whether it be people or curriculum.
We have an imperative job to keep them safe and free from mental and physical harm. We do that by hiring sound and good people starting with the Superintendent, and approving of his recommendations. I look forward to working with Dr Ramos.
The Board is a team and we want those 7-0 votes, but a few uneven votes can be healthy too. Periodically, push back is healthy and progressive. We work together, with one agenda and that is Castleberry ISD, our students, our employees, our families, our community, our neighbors.
Public schools are an integral part of any community and Castleberry has always been the center of ours. Let’s keep this tradition going, let’s show other communities what it means to care for one another and to care for one another’s children. Let’s continue to push forward giving our children an exceptional education in a different world that you and I may have not grown up in.
Thank you for listening ! Thank you for your vote!

Forum Introduction :
A great school board member is the partner our school educators need, the advocate our students deserve. School boards are entrusted by the public as a team to lead and to translate the needs of students into policies, plans, and goals that will be supported by the community . And our Castleberry community has it all! I want to talk about 3 attributes of US. 1. We are being Revitalized, renewed, recharged 2. We have roots and wings 3. We are interesting! 1. Revitalization calls for innovation and we even have teams set up to make sure we are solving problems and thinking of best practices. We are the door to the River District of Fort Worth. When you first open that door, you walk right into our high school! Futuristic things that spark kids’ imaginations are useful, but the essence of a great education evolves from kindergarten to high school graduation. We may use new tools and topics to achieve it, but we still want our kids to: -learn how to learn -know the past -wield the power of math and science -experience and make art -be physically fit -become good citizens A great education is a long and rewarding journey which is on going and right now we have opportunity to take advantage of this time of revitalization to spark our imaginations for the future! Maybe it’s time to expand our child study programs to include a child care center for our employees. What a great conversation! Let’s talk about teaching Latin and why we should! Let’s talk about expanding our mariachi program to be part of an orchestra program that takes our students to a global education. What about a swim team? The list goes on and on! What are some of your ideas? Let’s talk! |
